Notes On Corrupt Database

Poet Louis Martin was inspired by two events to write this poem: On 4 March 2024 Martin was assaulted by thugs in Fishguard, Wales, and robbed. On 1 April 2024 "Papis", as Martin is known in Paris, went to Paris to read poetry at Club Culture Rapid and Cave Cafe and to recover from the assault. Then, when attempting to returning to London on 25 April 2024 Papis was arrested by the British Border Force for overstaying on previous visits. He had not overstayed, however. This was the result of a major technology SNAFU in the new 77-million-pound immigration database system causing 76,000 errors and much grief. See:

Martin's data was "conflated" with other immigrants and his travel history was total nonsense. It showed him making trips that he never made, such as to Vienna, and leaving the UK when he had never entered the UK. Worse it failed to include rail transportation on Eurostar and sea transportation with Sterna line ferries.

When Martin asked to see the report showing this data, he was told he was not allowed to see it; it was "an official document". And why, Martin wondered, was he not allowed to see an official document? What did an official document have to hide? A month later, after paying 950 pounds to a lawyer, Martin was allowed to view the document and its various errors. And Martin wondered how a Border Force agent had been able to conclude that Martin had overstayed. When one has no record of Martin entering the UK, how does one conclude that he has "overstayed"? The only conclusion that one could make was that the database was corrupt. In fact that was well known.
